Data Migration Project

As the Product Manager, I led the data migration project for a major bank, transitioning data from a legacy database to a new authorized provisioning point. The goal was to ensure a seamless and accurate migration, meeting all business and regulatory requirements while overcoming geographical and time zone challenges.

Challenges

Add a little bit of body text_edited.png
  • International Coordination: Collaborating with the business team operating on European hours while the engineering team was located in the United States.

  • Requirement Gathering: Accurately capturing and translating business needs and regulatory requirements into technical specifications.

  • Data Mapping: Ensuring precise mapping of data from the legacy system to the new database, including formatting and logic.

  • Stakeholder Communication: Maintaining clear and effective communication among diverse stakeholders, including business, engineering, and system tech owners.

Solution

To address these challenges, we adopted a Agile approach:

  • Effective Communication: Established clear communication protocols to manage time zone differences and ensure timely updates and feedback.

  • Comprehensive Requirement Gathering: Conducted detailed sessions with the business team to understand their needs, regulatory requirements, and current data usage for reporting.

  • Data Mapping and Logic Implementation: Worked closely with the engineering team to map data accurately from trading systems to the authorized provisioning point, including all necessary formatting and logic.

  • SQL Analysis: Utilized SQL to analyze data in both the legacy database and the new authorized provisioning point database. This helped in identifying discrepancies, mapping data accurately, and determining the necessary logic for migration.

  • Collaborative Implementation: Coordinated with engineers and system tech owners to ensure the data migration met business needs and was delivered on time.
